Police shot a man in Logan Central on Saturday evening, leaving him in a life-threatening condition as emergency services dealt with a series of serious incidents in Queensland into the early hours of Sunday.
Police were called to Ewing Road, near Carmody Street, Logan Central, at around 5.54pm on Saturday following reports of an armed man making threats while carrying a knife.
Logan County Detective Acting Inspector Jason Kitto said officers attempted to speak to the man before he approached police with a knife and was shot.
Kitto said officers responded to a triple 0 call regarding a “male causing harm and threats.”
“I can confirm that police officers were threatened at the time and as a result a single shot was fired,” he said.
Previous advice from the Queensland Ambulance Service suggested the man was in his 30s, but Kitto confirmed he was 27 and known to police.
Kitto said the man was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital, where his condition was “stable but critical”.
Kitto said the 27-year-old is under police protection and has not yet been charged.
“Logan County’s priority at this time is to support the officers involved at the time, as well as fully cooperate with our Ethical Standards Command in concluding this investigation,” Kitto said.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said the man was transported to PA in a “life-threatening condition” with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. No police officers or members of the public were injured.
It was declared a crime scene and police said there was no ongoing risk to public safety. A QPS spokesman said the Ethical Standards Command was investigating the incident under the supervision of the Crime and Corruption Commission. A police media conference was called for late Sunday morning.
