The man who died trying to rescue two people from the sea in East Yorkshire has been named Mark Ratcliffe.

His family said at his memorial service that the 67-year-old was “a true selfless hero with a heart of gold who was brutally deceived while trying to save others”.

Humberside Police said Mr Ratcliffe was pulled from the water unconscious and died at the scene in Withernsea on Friday.

Another body found Friday evening was that of a 45-year-old woman, police said. The teams continue their search for a missing person.

Mr Ratcliffe’s family said: “So many lives have been shattered when you are gone. “You were loved by so many people and we will all miss you forever.

“A loving husband, father, son, brother and the best grandfather anyone could ask for. Sleep tight, we love you, we miss you.”
