A portion of the Mangaluru-Solapur National Highway 169, which was closed for a month between Ganjimutt and Yedapadavu following the destabilization of the existing highway in Yedapadavu Hills, has been opened to traffic, albeit via the Yedapadavu ring road, from this week. The inauguration has brought huge relief to hundreds of people who commute daily on the Mangaluru-Moodbidri-Karkala line.
Cracks appeared in the existing carriageway passing through Yedapadavu Hills after the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) started constructing a ring road cutting through the hills, following which the highway had to be closed for a month from February 10. Manglauru City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy had issued a notification banning vehicle movement in the affected area and directing their movement to alternative routes.
