Manjummel Boys dominates with 10 wins, Mammootty named Best Actor

The winners of the 55th Kerala State Film Awards 2024 were announced at the press conference held by Culture Minister Saji Cherian. While Malayalam superstar Mammootty bagged the Best Actor award for his stellar performance in Rahul Sadasivan’s critically acclaimed horror thriller Bramayugam, the sensational hit Manjummel Boys was adjudged the winner in 10 categories, including Best Film.

Shamla Hamza, the relatively new face of the industry, received the title of Best Actress with her strong performance in Feminichi Fathima. The film, which was also selected as the Second Best Film, also brought its director Fasil Muhammed the Best Breakthrough Director award. Premalu was adjudged Best Film with Popular Appeal and Aesthetic Value.

Chidambaram S Poduval, director of Manjummel Boys, won the Best Director and Best Screenplay awards. Other major awards for the 2024 survival thriller included Shyju Khalid’s Best Cinematography, Shijin Melvin and Abhishek Nair’s Best Sound Mixing and Best Sound Design, Ajayan Chalissery’s Best Art Direction and Vaidan’s Best Lyricist for the song Kuthanthram. Soubin Shahir was named Best Character Actor (Male). The film also won in the Best Processing Lab/Colorist category.

Special Jury Acting Awards were given to Jyothirmayi for the movie Bougainvillea, Darshana Rajendran for the movie Paradise, Asif Ali for the movie Kishkindha Kaandam and Tovino Thomas for the movie ARM. The Special Award in All Categories for Women/Transgender was won by Payal Kapadia for her film All We Imagine as Light, which was critically acclaimed and won many awards at international film festivals.

The jury panel of the 55th Kerala State Film Awards 2024 was chaired by renowned actor Prakash Raj and comprised eminent professionals like director Ranjan Pramod, filmmaker Jibu Jacob, screenwriter Santhosh Echikkanam, playback singer Gayathri Ashokan, sound designer and director Nithin Lukose and actor, writer and dubbing artist Baghyalakshmi.
