Maoists kill BJP worker in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur

Maoists killed a worker of the ruling BJP in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, suspecting him of being a police informer, officials said on Tuesday (October 14, 2025).

Satyam Punem, a resident of Mujalkanker under Ilmidi police station limits, was strangled to death by Maoists in the area on Monday night (October 13), a police official said. “Upon notice, a police team was dispatched to the scene,” he said.

The Maoists’ Madded district committee claimed in a handwritten pamphlet found at the scene that Punem had acted as a police informer. According to the police, the brochure stated that he continued to assist the police despite being warned three times by the Maoist organisation.

With this incident, approximately 40 people have lost their lives so far in Maoist violence in separate places in the Bastar division, which consists of seven districts, including Bijapur, in 2025.

Before 11 BJP leaders and workers killed between January 2023 and December 2024 in separate incidents in the episode.
