CID Arrests HCA President Jaganmohan Rao

Haydarabad: The Crime Investigation Department (CID) arrested A. Jaganmohan Rao, President of the Haydarabad Cricket Association (HCA) after a wake investigation on the allegations of tickets in the IPL 2025 season at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium.

The arrest stems from a fiery disagreement with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), accusing RAO of frightening, coercion and blackmail on free tickets and corporate boxes. SRH claimed that RAO had locked the F3 company box allocated to Sanjiv Goenka, owner of Lucknow Super Giants hours before the 27 March match, and demanded 20 additional tickets. Franchise claimed that RAO’s actions violated three party agreements that allocated SRH, HCA and BCCI to HCA (10% of the stadium capacity) to HCA.

Following SRH’s threat of moving from Haydarabad, TaLangana Prime Minister Revanth Reddy ordered a waking investigation directed by Principal Kothakota Sreenvasa Reddy. Probe confirmed Rao’s pressure tactics and led to detainees. Despite a decision that continued to allocate 3,900 tickets in April 2025, the Youth Congress protests and RAO’s claims for land market ticket sales concentrated. HCA rejected RAO’s personal request, but former players and managers claimed that the office owners claimed that tickets were abused and called for a wider investigation on governance issues.
