Marine vet Brian McGinnis vows to stay in Senate race after viral Sheehy clash

The Marine veteran and Green Party Senate candidate vowed to continue his congressional campaign after he was forced out of a Senate hearing by police this week.
Sen. Tim Sheehy, R-Mont., had assisted law enforcement in ejecting Brian McGinnis from a hearing after an outburst.
McGinnis, who is running for U.S. Senate in North Carolina, was protesting U.S. military strikes against Iran when he was removed from Wednesday’s hearing. He will run to replace outgoing Republican Senator Tom Tillis.
“And for the record, I was running long before this, and yes, even after I broke my arm for what I believed in,” McGinnis wrote of X. “It’s only made me more determined. Anger is real, and so is determination. Take care.”

McGinnis is among five candidates in the race; They include former Democratic North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper and former chairman of the Republican National Committee Michael Whatley, both of whom won their respective primaries on Tuesday.
A video of McGinnis being forced out of a hearing at the Hart Senate Office Building has gone viral. In the footage, the US Capitol Police can be seen catching the former soldier shouting “No one wants to fight for Israel” as he is being pushed out of the Senate Armed Services Committee hearing room.
Authorities said McGinnis, 44, wearing his Marine Corps blue uniform, stuck his arm in the door to avoid being kicked out of the room.
At one point, Sheehy, a former Navy SEAL, joined police by grabbing McGinnis’ legs and helping pull him out.
“This afternoon, an unruly man who began unlawfully protesting during a hearing placed everyone in a dangerous situation by violently resisting and struggling with our officer’s attempts to remove him from the chamber,” U.S. Capitol Police said in a statement. he said. “Protests are not permitted inside the Capitol Buildings. There are many other locations outside the Capitol where demonstrations are permitted.”

U.S. Capitol Police said three officers were treated for injuries.
McGinnis faces three counts each of assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, creating a mob, obstructing and disturbing an unlawful assembly, a Capitol police spokesman said.
In his own statement, Sheehy said officers tried to remove an unstable protester from the room.
“He was fighting back. So I decided to help and de-escalate the situation,” he said. “This gentleman came to the Capitol seeking a confrontation, and he had a confrontation. I hope he gets the help he needs before he leads to further violence.”

Tillis thanked Sheehy for helping officers in a post on X.
