Mark Teixeira blames Democrats for government shutdown

It’s been more than two weeks since the government shutdown, and an MLB star-turned-congressional candidate is pointing the finger at Democrats on Capitol Hill.
Mark Teixeira, who launched his campaign for Texas’ 21st Congressional District in August, said “the insanity we’re seeing on the left” as the government shutdown continues sets a “terrible precedent.”
The former Texas Ranger, Atlanta Brave and New York Yankee said Democrats aren’t doing their “job” and should be willing to negotiate.
“Elections have consequences,” Teixeira told Will Cain on Wednesday. “The side that loses an election knows that they’re not going to get everything they want every time a bill or budget is passed. So maybe you have to accept that you’re not going to get what you want.”

Cain showed Reuters/Ipsos poll This shows that 67 percent of voters blame Republicans for the shutdown, 63 percent blame Democrats and 63 percent blame President Donald Trump. But Teixeira said he “doesn’t trust the polls” and added that there is still “Trump instability syndrome” among those who blame conservatives.
“As long as there are Democrats and there are people out there saying everything the Republicans do is bad, even if it’s reasonable. That’s reasonable. Hey listen, you want to negotiate some things? OK, give us a few weeks. We’ll negotiate. But don’t shut down the government and don’t hold American workers hostage, American military personnel, because you haven’t gotten this far,” Teixeira said.
“I understand that a lot of things can’t be accepted without a supermajority, and we have to work across the aisle from time to time. But we’re not going to negotiate with terrorists. We’re not going to negotiate with a party that says, ‘If we don’t get our way, if we don’t change the rules, then I’m going to shut down the government.’ That’s not fair to the American people, it’s not fair to all the Republicans who are trying to do this the right way and say, ‘Give us a few more weeks to negotiate.’

“I believe the Democrats are being irrational.”
“Democrats are destroying our country and President Trump needs reinforcements to fight to take our country back,” Teixeira said in an X post from earlier this month.
