Massive hammerhead shark hoisted by crane from Florida beach

The massive hammerhead shark found dead in Florida’s Naples Beach on Thursday was collected by scientists for an autopsy.

In the accompanying footage shot by Christian Hernandez, the estimated 300-pound shark is seen being placed into the bed of a transport truck via crane.

The crane reveals the size of the hammerhead shark.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will perform the autopsy in hopes of determining the cause of death.

The image of the giant shark on the beach and being lifted by a crane caused great excitement.

Frederick Pulice, who lives in Naples, said: Gulf Coast News: “I have lived in Florida since the 60s… I have seen sharks, but I paid attention to their size.”

Great Hammerhead sharks, which can grow up to approximately 20 feet in length, are listed worldwide as: critically endangered.

A smaller, great hammerhead shark, 12 feet long, in early March found dead near the Juno Beach Pier in Palm Beach County. It was stated that the shark was killed because of its fins and the investigation is continuing.
