A major crash on the M61 caused four miles of morning rush hour traffic on England’s main motorway, with motorists warned to expect “long delays”. National Highways wrote about X: “Lane 3 (of 3) is closed in both directions on the #M61 in Lancashire due to a collision between J6 (#Bolton) and J8 (#Chorley).

“Emergency services are at the scene and rescue has been arranged. There is a 25 minute delay and 6.5 kilometer traffic jams heading north. Traffic service Inrix said: “All traffic has been temporarily stopped and traffic has come to a standstill due to an accident on the M61 Northbound from the J6 A6027 De Havilland Road (Horwich) to the J8 A674 Millennium Road (Chorley). All traffic was stopped around 07:30.” A new update added: “One lane is closed on the M61 from J6 A6027 De Havilland Way (Horwich) to J8 A674 Millennium Way (Chorley) in both directions due to long delays and a crash. “The third lane (three lanes) in both directions northbound was closed for approximately 40 minutes.”
