former Republican congressman Matt Gaetz He claimed Wednesday that he and other members of Congress were forced to wear “demoralizing” QR codes at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee reception so donors can scan you like a can of tomato soup.

Discussing his latest situation criticism Pro-Israel lobbying organizations such as AIPAC appearance Open Tim Pool podcast timcastGaetz recalled:

I saw how AIPAC worked, and it was strange for a national lawyer like me. I remember my first AIPAC reception and just like your fundraiser is telling you you have to go and your chief of staff is telling you you have to go, your committee chairs are all telling you you have to go.

You get there and you put on this badge and I remember it had a QR code on it and what we had to do was talk to the donors and then if they liked you, they scanned your QR code to donate instantly. Can you imagine how depressing this is? Like being told that your job for the next few hours is to chat with people, hoping they’ll scan you like a can of tomato soup as you leave the meeting?

He continued, “I saw this and I was like, ‘This is weird,’ and then, you know, I was in Israel. I’ve been there many times and I didn’t like seeing someone going through my stuff in my room. They shouldn’t have been there, it’s the King David Hotel. When I got back to my room, no one was waiting for me to come back to my room; I don’t know who, I just thought it was weird.”

“The combination of all this is strange, and the growth of politics seems to be an obsession with the Middle East that does not serve my generation well,” Gaetz concluded.

AIPAC denies Gaetz’s claim on social media to mail“The accusation about our fundraisers is, of course, a lie. Barcodes are on badges and scanned for security purposes, not to collect donations. Maybe @mattgaetz was confused because he was asking people to scan his barcode and people didn’t even want to talk to him,” he writes.
