Matthew Brennan: Briton follows Sir Mark Cavendish with win in Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne

Matthew Brennan became the first Briton since cycling great Sir Mark Cavendish to win the Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne one-day race in Belgium.
The sprint finish proved too much for his rivals as the 20-year-old cruised to victory in the 195-kilometre race and followed Cavendish’s success in 2012 and 2015.
“I did this race twice when I was young,” said Visma-Lease Cyclist Brennan, who managed to cycle despite a heavy fall at Omloop Nieuwsblad on Saturday.
“We always stood at the finish line and watched all the pros come in and do their races.
“It’s great to be in a situation now where I can throw my hands in the air and win the pro race.
“Hopefully more will come; that’s our goal.”
Luca Mozzato came second, while his compatriot Matteo Trentin came third.
