Vote Counting Begins for Kerala Local Body Polls

Thiruvananthapuram: Counting of votes for 1,199 local bodies in Kerala, where two-phase elections were held, started at 8 am.

Initially, postal votes were counted followed by EVM votes.

Initial trends shared by the State Election Commission (SEC) showed that the ruling LDF, opposition UDF and NDA are leading in various grama panchayat, block panchayat, municipal and corporation wards.

Counting is carried out in 244 central and 14 district collectorates.

There were some issues in granting entry permission to booth representatives and candidates at a few counting centres, including Thiruvananthapuram, Palakkad and Vadakara.

The results are expected to determine the future course of campaigns by political parties and fronts in the state for the 2026 assembly elections in Kerala.

The oath ceremony of elected panchayat members and municipal council members will be held on December 21 at 10 am.

The oath ceremony of the company council members will be held on December 21 at 11:00.
