Medik8’s Physical Sunscreen: Urgent recall for premium sunscreen over SPF rating concerns

Three sunscreens are being urgently recalled due to concerns they may not meet the advertised sun protection factor (SPF).

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) said Medik8’s Physical Sunscreen SPF50+ 60mL, 60mL Professional and 15mL products were recalled by AC Newco, which owns them.

The TGA said: “There is a risk that a lower SPF rating than labeled may increase the risk of sunburn during use and reduce the long-term effectiveness of preventing skin cancer.”

The recall comes after the TGA proposed new sunscreen regulations to circumvent SPF tests by simplifying labels to low, medium, high or very high protection.

Consumers who purchased Medik8’s Physical Sunscreen SPF50+ 60 mL and 60 mL Professional sunscreens are asked to immediately discontinue use and return the product to the retailer from which it was purchased.

Customers who purchased the Post-Treatment Kit should not use the Physical Sunscreen SPF50+ tube included in the kit, but they can continue to use the other products included in the kit.
