Born in Mumbai, Shyam lived as a baby in Lagos of Nigeria. Born in a mud hut in Tamil Nadu, his father was the first person to go to university in the family. He moved to Orlando (USA) when his family was two years old. Initially, they carried out a successful souvenir business for TEMA parks, and then a bankrupt dry cleaning job, Sankar said.
