Meghan Markle blasted over ‘provocative move’ after latest controversy | Royal | News

Meghan Markle has been viciously attacked for her “provocative” and “concerning” move after the duchess’ latest photoshoot bore striking similarities to some of the late Princess Diana’s most iconic images. The Duchess of Sussex gave a new interview to Harper’s Bazaar and did a photo shoot with them for their December 2025/January 2026 issue.
Meghan was seen in a variety of outfits, including red and champagne dresses as well as a black and white suit. However, many royal fans and commenters found the photos to be eerily similar to photos of Diana.
Now, in the wake of the outrage, a PR expert has called the move a disaster and a “very bad idea”; this can only fuel anger and make him appear to contradict himself.
Renae Smith, founder and manager atticismHe told the Express: “[When I first heard about it] I thought for sure he would never go for it. Then I saw the photos and it was undeniable.
“These are not polite references or sweet compliments. These are copies. The one sitting cross-legged on the floor? Stop it!”
“From a public relations perspective, this is a very bad idea. It’s confusing, provocative in the wrong way, and puts her under the royal shadow that she always insists she wants to escape.”
“It’s not hard to avoid anything Royal-related. But he can’t go two weeks without doing something Royal Family-related!”
In one of the photos, Meghan can be seen sitting barefoot on the floor, crossing her legs, holding her fingers and looking at the camera.
A very similar photo was taken by famous photographer Patrick Demarchelier in 1991 while working with the late Princess of Wales for that year’s December issue of Vogue magazine.
Other shots from the photo shoot appear to be similar, including the close-up portrait.
Another interesting shot was Meghan’s red outfit by Balenciaga. Fans said it was similar to other photo shoots of Princess Diana published for Vogue commemorating her death in 1997.
Diana wore a striking red dress by Valentino and was photographed again by Mr. Demarchelier in 1994; however, the photographs were used for a commemorative issue in 1997.
Another of the outfits Meghan wore for the Harper’s Bazaar shoot was a silk champagne dress that, according to fans, was very similar to the dress Diana wore in her iconic portraits shot by David Bailey.
Ms Smith added: “I think Harry might like this. I assume he met her first and probably told her she was lovely. His mother and wife are combined in one image, so it could be emotionally meaningful to them.”
“Strategically, he’s terrible. It makes him look completely directionless. I don’t really know who’s advising him or if they have a plan.”
“For me, this is more than simply a bad PR move, it shows a lack of boundaries both personally and professionally.
“She keeps saying she wants to step away from the royal world, yet continues to involve herself directly in the legacy of the most powerful royal symbol of all time and the mother of her husband.
“The contradiction is glaring and the emotional implications are worrying.”
