Meghan Markle is reportedly facing a new problem after her “ultimate girls’ weekend” at a luxury resort in Australia, which is set to debut next month, suffered yet another setback. The Duchess of Sussex will be the star guest at a women-only event in Sydney and will be interviewed on stage.
VIP tickets for the 300-person event, which runs from 17-19 April, cost £1,700 and offer front-row seats at the gala dinner and a group photo with Meghan. But new reports claim the hotel’s pool and spa are yet to be completed and the beach below has been struggling with sewage ‘poop balls’ for the past two years, just weeks before the Duchess’s accession.
Meghan’s attendance was announced by Her Best Life podcast host Gemma O’Neill, who organized the event.

She said: “I’m in awe of this woman (Meghan) and the things she’s endured and how she’s overcome it and shown how a woman can be pushed down and still rise.”
O’Neill described the three-day event at the five-star beach hotel InterContinental as a “perfect girls’ weekend” and said Meghan contacted him after being contacted by a mutual friend.
“I’m flattered that he actually did this as a favor, thanks to our mutual friend,” he said.
“She does this because she truly loves what our community is about, women trying to grow, trying to do their best, and trying to help other women.”
However, the Daily Mail reports that the event has been “beset by problems” since the announcement, which began with the promoter’s talent agency reportedly going bankrupt due to debts of more than £373,000.
It is also reported that the InterContinental’s pool, where guests are expected to relax, as well as a spa, bar and “entertainment terrace” are also under construction.
A guest who stayed at the hotel last week said renovations to the pool were a “work in progress” and a “blemish on the landscape”.
Meanwhile, “foul-smelling balls of chemicals, soap scum, cooking oil, hair and human feces” allegedly washed up on the shore below the hotel.
The hotel’s website claims that “the entertainment terrace, featuring the ocean-facing infinity pool, poolside bar, outdoor event terrace, Eliva Spa and Club InterContinental, is scheduled to open in April 2026.”
An exact date for completion was not given.
However, Meghan’s spokesperson reportedly confirmed that the Duchess will attend the launch event.
