Meghan Markle just made her most desperate move yet – she’s not fooling me | Royal | News

As someone who’s spent the last few years chronicling Meghan Markle’s endless innovations, I really thought we’d seen it all. From tell-all documentaries to podcasts to the uber-expensive lifestyle brand. So what about the latest installment of the Duchess of Sussex’s return to royal tour? Return to acting. And honestly, that’s enough to make anyone’s eyes pop out of their sockets.

Yes that’s true. Meghan Markle is returning to Hollywood eight years after leaving show business to become a royal.

He’s set to star in Close Personal Friends alongside Lily Collins, Brie Larson, Jack Quaid (Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid’s son) and Henry Golding, and if that name isn’t ironic, I don’t know what is.

These are not the Kardashians. This was Crown. But Meghan seems to have lost interest once she realized royal life doesn’t come with red carpets.

Clashes with palace staff, frosty relations with Princess Kate and frustrations with protocol paint a familiar picture: When tiaras and trumpets weren’t everyday fixtures, Meghan packed her bags for the Montecito sun.

He once claimed that the monarchy did not suit him. But California? This is its natural habitat; A country where fame, not service, rules.

Meghan and Harry vowed to live a quieter life when they quit working royals. “Financial independence” and “privacy” were buzzwords. Yet somehow the Sussexes have made far more headlines than they do as royals.

There’s a Netflix docuseries, a Spotify podcast, Harry’s memoir Spare, and now Meghan’s lifestyle brand As Ever, which sells everything from honey to hot fudge kits. For a couple who wanted peace of mind, they managed to turn overexposure into an art form.

Now Meghan’s return to acting feels like the next desperate move in her bid to stay relevant. Her last major role was Rachel Zane in the legal drama Suits, which wrapped in 2019.

And let’s be honest. What exactly is Meghan Markle’s acting legacy? She’s not Angelina Jolie or Natalie Portman. These are women with serious film careers, who are respected for their craft, not their camera angles.

Meghan’s resume reads more about red carpet than red letter roles. Other than a supporting role in Suits and a few brief TV appearances, it’s impossible to speak of an Oscar-worthy performance; not even close.

Meghan, who has been away from the game for eight years, is stepping back into an industry that has long been pushing forward, with little more than a royal title and a knack for self-promotion.

It doesn’t scream Hollywood comeback; silently whispers desperation. You can’t disappear from acting for almost a decade, subvert the monarchy and expect to get a standing ovation.

Meghan didn’t want to be a royal. He wanted to be known. This is not a renaissance, it is a restructuring.

The irony is that she once had a much bigger role: the Duchess of Sussex, a woman who could redefine the monarchy from the inside. Instead, he replaced the task with drama, choosing the allure of fame over the weight of history.
