Rogan reacts ‘That sounds so Republican!’ to 2010 Obama speech on deportation

Podcaster Joe Rogan marveled Wednesday at a clip that went viral in 2010 of then-President Barack Obama defending deportation and immigration enforcement.
The clip, shared in a post on social media platform
rogan spoke Wednesday with podcaster Andrew Wilson about the current fight over immigration. Rogan is one of many influencers who have placed particular emphasis on Obama’s previous policies on immigration and deportation, which contrast sharply with current Democratic Party stances.

“They think everything will be fine when they come to power. But it won’t be like that,” Rogan said. “And not only that, but if someone on the left started behaving exactly like people on the right, doing it from a left perspective, you’d think, ‘Oh, that’s OK,’ and that’s what we had during the Obama administration.”
Rogan had his producer share the viral clip of Obama, noting: “By the way, I was wrong about Obama and this. I thought most of the people Obama deported were people who were turned away at the border. Uh-uh. This was the third. Most of the people in the area – I think it was about 3 million people during his presidency – were deported. Arrested, deported. A lot of families were affected. Let’s put this in. We’re wearing headphones so we can listen to the conversation, because it sounds so MAGA.”
During his 2010 speech, Obama took issue with pro-immigrant advocates calling for amnesty and a halt to deportations, responding: “I recognize the sense of compassion that drives this argument, but I believe such an indiscriminate approach would be both unreasonable and unjust.”
The President warned: “This shows those who are considering coming here illegally that such a decision will not have any repercussions and could lead to further illegal immigration.”

“After all, our nation, like all nations, has the right and the obligation to control its borders and to establish laws regarding residence and citizenship,” Obama said. “And the 11 million people who broke these laws, no matter how decent they were, no matter what their motives, must be held accountable.”
Obama added that he was not in favor of deporting “11 million people.”
“That sounds so Republican! A Democrat was saying that in 2010 and everyone was like, ‘Okay, okay,'” Rogan said. he said. “And not only that, but Tom Homan, who is president now, was the guy back then and gave him a fucking medal.”
Rogan asked his producer to find a famous clip of Hillary Clinton in which “Hillary is more MAGA than Trump.”
In the 2008 clip, Clinton said: “I think we’ve got tough conditions, tell people to come out of the shadows, if they’ve committed crimes, deport them. They leave without asking questions. If they’re working and they’re abiding by the law, we should say, ‘There are conditions for you to stay. You’ve got to pay a hefty fine for coming here illegally. You’ve got to pay back taxes, and you’ve got to try to learn English. And you’ve got to wait in line!”

“Everyone applauded!” Rogan said.
“And now, Trump is a ‘Nazi,'” Wilson said, mocking liberal rhetoric that claims Republicans are authoritarian today by imposing policies that until recently were mainstream.
Earlier in the episode, Rogan recalled his conversation with Elon Musk, where he outlined how the Tesla CEO argued that mass immigration was actually a plan to ensure Democrats never lose an election again.
“And one of the best ways to do that is to send countless people to swing states,” Rogan said.
