Meryl Streep reunites with Devil Wears Prada inspiration Anna Wintour in Vogue cover shoot

Meryl Streep has reunited with former Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, the inspiration behind the icy fashionista she portrays in The Devil Wears Prada.

The iconic duo graced the cover May issue of Vogue, Streep is on the receiving end of Wintour’s fierce but sly smile.

Wintour, the former editor-in-chief of the Fashion Bible, is the muse behind Streep’s The Devil Wears Prada character, Miranda Priestly, the ruthless leader of Runway magazine whose employees are feared.

Captured by renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz, the photo shows the two legends wearing Prada as they prepare for the follow-up to the original 2006 hit.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 will be released on May 1 and will see the return of Anne Hathaway as former Runway assistant Andrea Sachs, who returns to work under Priestley as a features editor.

In an interview by Greta Gerwig, Streep and Wintour (both 76) candidly discussed ‘power dressing, longevity and outlook on age’.

Streep, both styled by Grace Coddington, combined a navy blue suit with a button-down ivory shirt and pointed black heels.

Meanwhile, the media executive wore a bright red dress with black and beaded detailing and a long, pleated skirt.

The stars also matched with stylish black sunglasses throughout the photo.

Ahead of The Devil Wears Prada sequel, which the article calls DWP2, Wintour shared: ‘What I liked about the first movie was that it showed the world how big business fashion is.

“It’s a real global economic power, and the first movie acknowledged that. A lot has changed. But I like to think we’re evolving rather than falling apart. We’re still here.”

‘We all do our work in different ways and across multiple platforms rather than just one, but how great is that? We’re reaching a lot more people.’

And the industry icon said he ‘indirectly’ trusted Streep when it came to shooting the second movie.

Streep said about returning to film after 20 years: ‘I think they’ve got something right with this business now.

In 2022, Wintour said she would choose the three-time Academy Award winner to play her in a Broadway musical.

He made this statement while appearing on Vogue’s famous 73 Questions YouTube episode.

The Devil Wears Prada is based on the novel by former Vogue intern Lauren Weisberger.

She described her time working with the fashion pillar as ‘crazy’.

While she was in the job for less than a year, her time on the air inspired the hit movie and Wintour became the boss of the fictional magazine Runway.

Weisberger appeared on the Today show in 2021 and told host Jenna Bush Hager that her former role at Vogue was a ‘wild introduction to the working world of New York City.’

‘…And it was wild. Wild,’ he added at the time.

The best-selling novel encapsulated Wintour’s fierce attitude while zooming in on Weisberger’s time with the fashion bible.

The author explained that she spent her days in the office ‘sending faxes, filing, getting coffee and making sure Anna’s life went as smoothly as possible’.
