Poundland to shut 14 more UK stores in major blow to high street – full list | UK | News

A UK bargain chain has announced that 14 of its stores will close before February 2026. Poundland will close its stores completely between 5 October and 26 January in a fresh blow to the UK’s high street.
The closures are part of a restructuring plan the company launched in June after it was sold to investment firm Gordon Brothers for £1. In total, almost 60 stores have closed and a further 150 are at risk; Poundland expects to reduce its portfolio to around 700 stores. The new owners proposed canceling frozen food, reducing refrigerated food, closing distribution centers, not selling online, and offering more women’s clothing and seasonal items. Retail director Darren MacDonald said: “Of course, it is truly regrettable that our recovery plans include the closure of any stores, but unfortunately this is necessary if we are to achieve our aim of securing the future of thousands of jobs and hundreds of stores.
“Whilst our network of approximately 650-700 stores remains sizeable, we fully understand how disappointing it will be for customers to see the closure of a nearby store. However, we look forward to continuing to welcome them to a nearby Poundland.
“It goes without saying that we will be working closely with colleagues through a formal consultation process on stores planned to close and will be exploring suitable alternative roles.
It comes after Poundland announced stores would close on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day as a mark of appreciation for the tireless efforts of its staff over the past year.
