Met Office issues weather warning ahead of temperatures dropping across UK

Snow could return in the UK this week as the Met Office predicts a drop in temperatures.
After a rainy start to the year, the country has seen brighter weather in recent days and warmer weather has arrived with the start of March.
Last Thursday was the hottest day of the year so far, with sunshine bringing temperatures to 19.2C.
The highest temperature was recorded in Northolt, London, surpassing the warmest day of the year at 18.7 degrees recorded at Kew Gardens the previous week.
This meant that parts of the UK were warmer than Barcelona, with the Spanish city’s top temperature being 16C.
However, the upcoming weather is expected to be a little more dreary, with rain and clouds across the UK.
According to the latest Met Office forecast, it is expected to be cloudy this week ahead of the possibility of some snow in the Scottish Highlands. There is a weather warning in northern Scotland where strong winds are expected on Wednesday.
Clouds are expected on Tuesday and Wednesday morning, with the Met Office saying the skies will clear and some sunny weather is expected.
Regarding Wednesday, he adds: “The South East is likely to benefit from the best weather conditions on Wednesday, where temperatures will be near or slightly above average, with highs of 15C possible. The Northwest will be colder with maximum temperatures in the high single figures.”
However, rain and winter conditions are expected from Thursday. The Met Office said most would face high winds and rain, with “heavy showers moving towards the north-west and a chance of snow in the Scottish highlands”. Snow could then return on Friday, with a colder day expected across the UK.
Met Office chief operational meteorologist Jason Kelly said: “A significant change in wind direction to the north-west will bring a noticeably colder day across the country on Friday, with the potential for a mix of sunny spells, heavy showers, coastal storms and snow at higher elevations.
“There is also the possibility of accumulation in the lower hills. The picture will become clearer as time approaches, so follow our forecasts as the week progresses.”
