Met Office names 11 areas facing snow on Tuesday – full list | Weather | News

The Met Office issued a 19-hour yellow snow and ice warning for 11 parts of England on Monday and Tuesday.

The weather agency predicts that winter conditions will return at 15:00 on Monday, and the warning will be in effect until 10:00 on Tuesday.

The Met Office says rain, sleet and snow will follow, with wind speeds of up to 60 miles per hour expected in some parts of the country.

The forecast says: “Periods of rain, sleet and snow will spread south-east at times across Scotland into Monday and Monday nights, initially accumulating snow on the hills (typically above 200m elevation) but falling to lower levels later in the day and overnight. More scattered showers will arrive from the north-west later in the night and into Tuesday morning.”

“On Monday evening and night, when the snowfall is heaviest, 1-2 cm of snowfall will be seen in low areas (away from north-facing coasts), 2-5 cm above approximately 150 m, and 5-8 cm above 300 m.

“With temperatures dropping below freezing, frost is likely on raw surfaces, even where precipitation falls as rain or sleet. A few isolated lightning strikes will pose additional hazards. Strong north to northwest winds are also likely to reach 50-60 mph in more exposed areas in the Northern Isles and northeastern parts of the mainland on Monday evening and overnight.”
