On Monday, the weather agency issued a new yellow weather warning for snow.

The warning is valid from midnight on Tuesday until 15:00 on Wednesday. Snow warning applies to 12 counties in Scotland.

Full list of affected areas:

Central, Tayside and Fife
Angus, Clackmannanshire, Dundee, Fife, Perth and Kinross, Stirling
grandfather
Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Moray
Highlands and Eilean Siar
Plateau
Orkney and Shetland
Orkney Islands
Strathclyde
Argyll and Bute

The Met Office’s forecast said: “The rain that feeds the east and north of Scotland will gradually fall as sleet and then snow until Tuesday and Wednesday. By Wednesday, accumulations of 1-3 cm above 100 meters and up to 5 cm in some places are expected.

“Accumulations of 10 cm are expected on the ground above 200 meters, and up to 20 cm may be seen locally in some places. Precipitation at low levels will be a mixture of rain, sleet and snow, which may lead to small snow accumulations in places. Strong winds will cause blizzards from time to time and drift of snowfall, especially in the north of the warning area.”

When snowy weather conditions occur, the Met Office advises households to plan driving routes in advance as travel disruptions and icy conditions could cause delays.

The Met Office also says if you’re driving you should also pack the following in your car: warm clothes, food, water, blanket, flashlight, ice scraper/defroster, warning triangle, high-vis vest and in-car phone charger.
