Met Police urged to reopen Andrew investigation after latest release of Epstein files

The Met Police have been urged by a US lawyer to reopen an investigation into Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor after he included the latest disclosure of files on disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.

The documents released Friday included several photos of Andrew on all fours, bending over a woman. Documents have also emerged showing Andrew exchanged emails with Epstein about a “beautiful” Russian woman and invited her to Buckingham Palace.

Meanwhile, a second woman claimed she was sent to England by Epstein in 2010 to have sex with Andrew. No evidence has been presented to support this last claim.

Gloria Allred, an attorney representing 27 of Epstein’s victims, said: mail on sunday: “The Metropolitan Police should reopen their investigation into Andrew. Andrew should also be willing to speak to Congress, even if he denies any wrongdoing.

“He should do this to help survivors learn what they observed and what happened at the scene. The crime scenes were all of Jeffrey Epstein’s homes, and Andrew stayed at several of Epstein’s homes.”

Andrew was accused of “hiding” after the US House Oversight Committee requested he be interviewed about his relationship with Epstein.

Last October, the Met said it was investigating claims that Andrew had sought help from a Met Police bodyguard to dig up dirt on Virginia Giuffre, who claimed she was forced to have sex with Andrew in London after being kidnapped by Epstein. Andrew has always vehemently denied the allegations.

But the police force said in December that it decided not to launch a criminal investigation because “the evaluation did not reveal any additional evidence of criminal acts or misconduct.”

The Met also chose not to proceed with a full investigation in 2016, and also in 2019, 2021 and 2022 after reviews were carried out. The force said “other international authorities are best placed” to look into the allegations.

Andrew paid millions to settle a civil sexual assault claim in 2022 against Ms Giuffre, a woman he claimed he had never met.

Andrew resigned from royal duties in 2019 following an interview on the BBC’s Newsnight programme, but the posthumous publication of Ms Giuffre’s memoirs and the US government’s release of documents from Epstein’s estate have brought greater scrutiny to his relationship with the late financier.

This led to the King officially stripping his disgraced brother of both his HRH style and the title of prince.

Speaking on calls for an investigation, Rachael Maskell, Labor MP for York Central, told BBC Radio 4’s Broadcasting House: “It’s quite strange that the investigation has been dropped because the titles have been dropped. I don’t think it matters at all whether you have titles or not.”

“There we have it. [a] “A powerful man against whom very serious allegations have been made about his involvement with very vulnerable women, human trafficking and sexual exploitation.”

On Saturday, Sir Keir Starmer said Andrew should be prepared to give evidence to the US Congress about his ties to Epstein.

The Met Police and Andrew have been contacted for comment.
