Meta signs nuclear power deals to fuel AI data centres

Facebook parent company Meta said it has struck nuclear power deals with three companies as it continues to seek electricity sources for its AI data centers.
Meta has agreements with TerraPower, Oklo and Vistra on nuclear power for the Prometheus AI data center being built in New Albany, Ohio.
In July, Meta announced Prometheus, which will be a 1-gigawatt cluster spanning multiple data center buildings.
It is expected to come online this year.
Financial terms of the agreements with TerraPower, Oklo and Vistra were not disclosed.
Mark Zuckerberg-led Meta said Friday that the three deals will support up to 6.6 gigawatts of new and existing clean energy by 2035.
“These projects add reliable, reliable power to the grid, strengthen America’s nuclear supply chain, and support new and existing jobs building and operating American power plants,” the company said.
Meta said the agreement with TerraPower will provide financing supporting the development of two new Natrium units capable of producing up to 690 megawatts of definitive power, with delivery as early as 2032.
The deal also gives Meta the right to purchase power from up to six other Natrium units, which can produce 2.1 gigawatts and are targeted for delivery by 2035.
Meta will also purchase over 2.1 gigawatts of energy from two Vistra nuclear power plants operating in Ohio; In addition, energy from expansions at two Ohio facilities and a third Vistra facility in Pennsylvania will also be purchased.
The deal with Oklo, which counts OpenAI’s Sam Altman as one of its largest investors, will help develop a 1.2 gigawatt power campus in Pike County, Ohio, to support Meta’s data centers in the region.
The nuclear energy deals come after Meta announced in June that it had reached a 20-year agreement with Constellation Energy.
Meta operates Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.
