MI5 issues alert to MPs and peers over Chinese espionage | Espionage

MI5 has issued an espionage alert to MPs and colleagues warning that two men linked to China’s intelligence service are actively seeking to recruit MPs.
The spy agency sent its warning about the pair to House of Commons speaker Lindsay Hoyle and Lords equivalent Lord McFall on Tuesday morning, who both passed the warning on to MPs.
In an email to colleagues, McFall said people affiliated with China’s Ministry of State Security spy agency were “actively reaching out to individuals in our community.”
“Their aim is to gather information and lay the groundwork for long-term relationships using professional networking sites, recruitment agencies and consultants acting on their behalf,” he added.
Security minister Dan Jarvis is expected to make a statement in the House of Commons soon.
