Michelle Rowland repays portion of family trip after IPEA review

Albanese confirmed on Friday that he had received advice from IPEA on possible changes to the entitlement system. The federal cabinet will meet on Monday ahead of this week’s mid-year budget update and the issue is expected to be discussed.

On Sunday, Chancellor of the Exchequer Jim Chalmers acknowledged there were community concerns about the whole entitlement debate.

“I understand there’s a lot of concern from the community about this, I think we all understand that, we all understand that,” he told Sky News.

“These rules are all about trying to ensure that we can be the best caregivers we can and also the best parents we can.

“I understand there isn’t a lot of support for that in the community where the rules reflect that, but that’s what the rules are about and we do our best to abide by those rules.”

Chalmers said he understood that the IPEA advice the prime minister wanted would be received shortly.

He rejected suggestions that Rowland should resign.

“No, I don’t believe that. I think Michelle did the right thing in asking for IPEA to re-examine.”
