Indonesia Set To Release Hundreds Of Prisoners Under President’s Clemency Plan

Jakarta, Indonesia: Indonesia will begin to leave hundreds of prisoners from extremely crowded prisons after confirming the first stage of parliament’s president Prabowo Subuanto’s extensive Cleance plan.

The first group of 1.116 includes the leading competitors of previous President Joko Widodo and Papuan independence activists, who were imprisoned during the period.

Vice President of the House of Representatives Sufmi DASCO Ahmad and Law Minister Supratman Andi Agtas made the announcement late on Thursday after a consultation between the party factions in the government and the Legislative Assembly.

When Subantio said he planned to give Clemence for 44,000 prisoners throughout the country, he surprised the nation two months after he took office in October. In the past, Indonesian leaders rarely used the amnesty powers that required the approval of parliament.

The analysts carefully welcomed the Sweeping Plan of SubIo’s sweeping plan, which could see that thousands of prisoners and agtas were released, their political prisoners and prisoners would give priority to those who were convicted of mental and chronic health diseases, elderly people, children and blasphemy.

Among the prisoners to be released, there are several leading opposition figures, including the Indonesian Democratic Struggle Party Hasto Krysteiyanto, the only official opposition party of the country.

Kristiyanto, a former Widodo ally, who criticized the former president and his family harshly, was sentenced to 3 1/2 years in prison for bribery in the 2019 legislative appointment program last week.

Agtas said that Parliament approved the end of the criminal cases against former Widodo ally Tom Lembong, once broken with him to support the political rival Anıes Baswedan during the 2024 Presidential elections. Lembong was sentenced to imprisonment for more than four years, and the Subuanto was preparing to appeal before proposing him for Clemency.

“Both have served the nation and now our priority is to strengthen the unity of the nation, Ağ said Agtas.

The group also includes six Papuan independence activists, who sentenced to prison for betrayal. Agtas said that they were released as they saw government movements unarmed.

Authorities are expected to submit a second list of 1,668 prisoners to Parliament in the near future.

Azmi Syahputra, a State Law Analyst from the University of Trisakti, urged Subiratio to explain the amnesty and lifting decision for the high -profile politicians who were convicted of graft cases, especially in graft cases, which he said he could not be forgiven by the public.

“Amnesty and lifting are the absolute powers held by the president, but he owes an explanation to people, Sydi said Syahputra. “Failure to fully explain the reasons will raise questions that may have widespread negative consequences if not comprehensively handled in the public sphere.”

He said that the movement could be interpreted as a political agreement between the public executive and legislative branches to alleviate criminal responsibility instead of healing law enforcement officers.

“This precaution is used to release high -profile figures from a sentence that is currently being presented for a particular political interest, Soy said Syahputra.

A political analyst from Mohammad Rosyidin, the University of Diponegoro, saw the group of rights in the context of a former general with the dictatorial history of the country, which was connected to human rights violations.

“President Prabowo’s amnesty plan may be a step to eliminate these perceptions and to transform him as a pro -democracy and human rights defender, R Rosyidin said.

Since he took office in October, the management of Subiano has taken action to return to their countries for several high -profile prisoners who were sentenced to death or life imprisonment for drug crimes.

Serge Atlaoui, a French French, returned to France in February after Jakarta and Paris agreed to send him back with “human reasons ..

Indonesia took Mary Jane Veloso at the time of death and returned to the Philippines in December. The same month sent the remaining five members of a drug ring known as “Bali Grandnut üre to Australia.
