Man charged over ‘childlike sex doll’, AI child abuse material in Sydney

A man has been charged after allegedly importing a “childlike sex doll” from Asia and possessing AI-generated child abuse material at a home in Sydney’s west.

Police seized a number of devices and children’s clothing from the Lalor Park property on September 8 following an investigation into a package that arrived in August.

Australian Border Force detected a shipment from Asia at an international postal facility in Sydney, which subsequent inspection revealed was a “childlike sex doll”.

He was seized and referred to ABF Investigations NSW, who, along with the Australian Federal Police, executed a search warrant at the property and spoke to a 59-year-old man there.

Police allege that subsequent investigations uncovered a significant amount of AI-generated child abuse material, as well as documents linked to the import of a childlike sex doll.

The man was taken to Blacktown police station where he was charged with importing tier 2 goods contrary to the Customs Act.

He was also charged with possession of child abuse material through a transportation service and possession of child abuse material for use through a transportation service.

If convicted and convicted, the man faces a maximum prison sentence of up to 15 years.

He was refused bail to appear before Blacktown Local Court on Monday.

AFP Detective Superintendent Luke Needham said the AFP and its partners were committed to stamping out alleged child abuse “wherever it occurs in the world”.

“The message could not be clearer: if you participate in these horrific activities you will be found, you will be charged and you will be prosecuted,” he said.

ABF Inspector Shaun Baker said officers were using intelligence-led screening and risk-based targeting to intercept illicit goods being imported into Australia.

“These disgusting dolls and this digital material have no place in Australian society,” he said.

Our officers are always alert about these videos and images coming from our airports and the packages coming to our shores.

“The use of childlike sex dolls disgustingly normalizes child abuse and is far from a victimless crime.”
