Emergency services have been rushed after a “chemical incident” at a school in England this afternoon. Firefighters were called to Coleraine Grammar School on Castlerock Road just before 4.15pm. Police and ambulance teams were dispatched to the scene in the town in Northern Ireland and three people were taken to hospital.
SDLP MLA Cara Hunter commented on the “alarming reports” of the incident, adding that her thoughts were with those affected, as well as students, staff and families. Dr David Carruthers, headteacher of Coleraine Grammar School, said: “A chemical incident has occurred at Coleraine Grammar School which has resulted in the release of dangerous gases in a confined space. No pupils were at the school due to the Easter holidays and three staff were advised to go to hospital.” “The incident was brought under control with the intervention of fire brigades,” he said.
