Vegas Golden Knights star Mitch Marner is doing the funniest thing ever with postseason explosion

One of the biggest stories of the Stanley Cup Playoffs was Vegas Golden Knights star Mitch Marner.

Everyone knew he was an elite player in the NHL, but the biggest blow to him during his time in Toronto was postseason play. And honestly, it wasn’t very good.

But the moment he left the city? He led Vegas to the Western Conference Finals and it’s funny because we’ve seen that happen before.

Marner scored with just over a minute left in Game 6 against the Anaheim Ducks and Vegas won 5-1 (they were lucky) to set up a date with the Colorado Avalanche.

The goal was Marner’s seventh goal of the postseason, leading the playoffs with 18 points; He is three points ahead of tied player Quinn Hughes for second place and the now-eliminated Minnesota Wild’s Kirill Kaprizov.

I think a lot of people saw this coming. Toronto’s playoff woes have been well documented. There hasn’t been a Stanley Cup since 1967, and nearly 20 years have passed between the Maple Leafs’ series wins between 2004 and 2023.

So, it’s funny to see Marner implode as soon as he got a taste of the playoffs with another team after coming to Sin City via a sign-and-trade last summer.

Remember when Phil Kessel was a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs? Like Marner, he became a popular target among fans and media.

He was later traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins and won the Stanley Cup the following season.

Now we will see whether this situation will continue. While Marner avoids a miserable 2025-26 season, the Leafs are expected to select Penn State star Gavin McKenna with the first overall pick in the upcoming draft, the type of player who could help right the ship in a hurry.
