Minister assures support to indigent family

Food and Civil Society Minister GR Anil assured of all possible assistance to a family in Pothencode headed by a widowed and sick mother with two young children.

This assurance came after the Minister on Wednesday visited the home of Biji, whose difficult living situation had recently attracted public attention. The visit took place after it was revealed that Biji’s son Godson, a Grade 7 student of Konchira school, had started selling lottery tickets to support the family.

Biji’s husband, a Kottarakkara native, had passed away earlier. This situation put the family in serious financial trouble. The family was currently living in a rented house at Pavukonam in Pothencode.

The minister intervened to ensure the family was given a priority ration card, a monthly food supply and access to free medical treatment. The Minister also stated that support will be received from voluntary organizations for the construction of houses. Assurances were also given to provide employment to Biji through a Kudumbashree microenterprise.
