Hate Speech Laws Are Here, And They’re Already Being Weaponised |The West Report
What is art and what is hate? Just ask the police! Freedom of speech, hate speech, and a whole new set of laws that are more like State Powers to Break Your Enemies than “social harmony.” 
This week alone, three flashpoints have flared simultaneously, with a satirical tweet landing a man in jail, a far-right agitator being prosecuted and Canberra police raiding a cafe over protest art on the wall.  
So who decides what counts as “hate”, the police on the scene, the politicians in Canberra or the courts, and why are some voices policed with the full force of the state while others pander to national television?
