Minister sets May 15 deadline for Pidiguralla medical college completion

Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Minister Satya Kumar Yadav on Monday (March 23, 2026) directed officials to ensure that all necessary studies are completed at the Government Medical College, Piduguralla, so that admissions for 100 MBBS seats can begin from the academic year 2026-27.

During a virtual meeting to review the progress of studies at the medical college, the Minister said that the Union government has approved ₹195 crore for the college, amounting to an area of ​​47 acres. The total cost of the project is 450 million lira.

As per National Medical Commission (NMC) norms, around 700 staff, including doctors, need to be recruited for a college with 100 MBBS seats. So far, the department has decided to fill approximately 180 positions, including professors, associate professors and assistant professors, through transfer and promotion. According to a press release from the department, steps are being taken to fill the remaining positions in 45 categories.

The minister instructed the officials to complete the recruitment process by the end of April. The Minister also inspected the construction works of the college, its affiliated teaching hospital, nursing college and student dormitories and gave clear instructions to complete the remaining works by May 15.

On the instructions of the minister, a team of officials led by Health Minister Saurabh Gaur will visit the university on Wednesday, March 25. Mr. Saurabh Gaur, Director of Medical Education Raghunandan and others attended the meeting.
