Ministry of Defence does not know how much has been spent on bringing data-leak Afghans to UK

The government said British’s public expenditures observer could not calculate the total cost of a secret displacement plan of Afghan data leakage.

National Audit Office (NAO), the Ministry of Defense (MOD) accounts, the amount spent on the plan of the plan in 2021 after the fall of the Taliban other re -settlement activities were not recorded separately, he said.

A disaster discovered in August 2023 revealed the details of approximately 18,700 applicants’ re -settlement plans and thousands of family members.

In response to the discovery of data violations, the Mode applied an unprecedented super junking to the British press and began to evacuate thousands of Afghan affected by the leakage.

The government used a already established road to England, which was established under the Afghan displacement and aid program (Arab) as a “cover” for the evacuation of those affected by the violation.

The Arab scheme was founded in 2021 for Afghans working and working with the British forces, and some Afghans had conformity for this plan, which was re -evaluated in the light of data violation.

Others who were not qualified under Arab because they had no strong enough ties with England, but also affected by the violation, were brought to England under a new Afghanistan response way (Arr).

This part of the secret operation was estimated by MOD as a £ 850 million.

In a report published on Wednesday, Nao said the government could not provide enough evidence to give the observer to the accuracy of this figure.

In the report, as of July 2025, 23,463 people affected by data violation have already been brought to England or evacuated.

Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown deputy, President of the Public Accounts Committee, said: “The Supreme Court Superinjuncton is still on the date of violations and the history of 850 million pounds and future costs.

“Mod cannot determine exactly what he spends to re -place people through the Arr scheme.

“This is because the reason for the Arr plan does not define the costs of the accounting system separately, that is, that these costs do not appear in the management accounts, instead of involving them in total expenditures of Afghan re -settlement activities.”

Mod said that Taliban avoided distinguishing costs to comply with an unprecedented super-junking after the leak between the fears that he could target refugees for retaliation.

Although he doesn’t fully know how much he spends on the scheme, he predicts that he has spent about £ 400 million and spends more than £ 450 million.

Before the Superinjunction was lifted, the government was preparing to evacuate more than 42,000 people affected by the data leakage.

In October 2024, senior ministers approved the plan to create a secret Afghan re -settlement program (ARP), which aims to evacuate approximately 36,000 people affected by the data leakage of 28,500.

The total costs of this new scheme were estimated to be between £ 6.27 billion to £ 7.23 billion by MOD. These costs were later repeated by senior government officials in the court.

Following the decision to remove Superinjunction, the mode decided to reduce the scope of the residential scheme. In July, they said that only the costs of the Arr scheme would be £ 850 million when the costs were completed, and the total cost of all Afghan re-settlement plans under Harp would be 5.5-6 billion £.

According to the NAO report published on Wednesday, MOD Wathdog said that the total cost of all Afghan re -settlement activities between 2021 and 2029 was estimated to be £ 2,074 billion.

Referring to the Arr costs, the guard dog said that the mode did not provide enough evidence to give Nao to reassure the integrity and accuracy of its predictions ”.

The costs of the entire government are expected to be around £ 128,000 per re -settled individual, and they are expected to be covered by an estimated £ 53,000 mode.

A mode spokesman said: iz We are determined to honor the moral obligation that we owe to the Afghans who stopped with us and risk their lives.

He continued: “Since the previous government has decided to support the abolition of the supervision of the supervision, we have been clear about the costs of moving the appropriate Afghans to England – and it is completely transparent.

“The cost of all Afghan re -settlement plans, including the Afghan response path, was completely financed as part of the government’s spending examination.”
