Minor fire at Sabarimala Ayyappa temple sparks concern among pilgrims, doused swiftly

A small fire broke out on the premises of Lord Ayyappa temple in Sabarimala on Sunday, causing brief concern among pilgrims, but the fire was quickly brought under control by fire and rescue personnel. Officials said the fire was spotted around 8.20am in the banyan tree near the aazhi (sacred fireplace) in the sannidhanam (temple complex).

It is believed that the fire was caused by a short circuit in LED decorative lights mounted on the tree.

Fire and rescue personnel at Sannidhanam responded immediately and the flames were extinguished before they could spread further.
