UNESCO World Heritage status granted to 12 forts

The 12 castles, which were informed by the state government, built by Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, were internationally recognized and marked a proud moment for Maharashtra.

After this recognition proposal was prepared by the Directorate of Archeology and Museums in the Department of Cultural Affairs in 11 and 1 castle in Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu, UNESCO World Heritage Site was given.

The list of castles includes Raigad, Pratapgad, Panhala, Shivner, Lohgad, Salher, Sindhudurg, Suvarnadurg, Vijaydurg and Maharashtra and the Gingee in Tamil Nadu.

“These castles are known for their extraordinary universal values, including military importance, architectural styles and cultural importance. Recognition, courage, architectural traditions and Swarajya [self-rule] Maharashtra’s ”, according to CMO.

In February, the delegation, led by the Minister of Cultural Affairs of Maharashtra and the information technology Ashish Shelalar, went to Paris to get the UNESCO World Heritage for the castles of Chhatirapati Shivaji Maharaj under the concept of Maratha military view of India.

Deputy Prime Minister Ajit Pawar congratulated the citizens of Maharashtra.
