VRO Dies By Suicide In Kurnool, Revenue Staff Protest

Sheikh Muhammad Hussain was working in the Gandhinagar Secretariat under the Kurnool Municipal Corporation. His family found him dead in his home early Saturday.

According to police and family members’ statements, Hussain left a suicide note in which he allegedly accused deputy collector W. Dhanunjaya and collector D. Ravikumar of constantly harassing him and giving him excessive work.

The incident led to protests by revenue department employees. Colleagues and staff gathered at Hussain’s house and later transferred the body to the Kurnool collection; They held a demonstration here for about two hours and demanded that the officials mentioned in the note be suspended and action be taken against those responsible.

Hussain was transferred from Village Revenue Assistant (VRA) to VRO II in December 2020. He was promoted to rank. Family members and colleagues said he had recently undergone spinal surgery and was seeking relief from strenuous duties. He was allegedly given election-related work and additional responsibilities despite his medical condition.

Colleagues pointed out that Hussein was performing duties in multiple secretariats, including responsible appointments and census-related work, which caused him severe mental stress.

Later, the family members approached district collector Dr. A. met Siri and began his quest for justice. The collector expressed that he was shocked by the incident and said that necessary measures would be taken after the investigation. He observed that the matter could have been referred to him earlier.

Following the family’s complaint, Kurnool Taluk police filed a case. Circle inspector S. Tejomurthy said an investigation was ongoing.

Former MP Reddappa is among 34 people detained due to YSRC protest in Punganur

Punganur police registered a case against former Chittoor MP N. Reddappa and 33 others in connection with the protest organized by YSRC at Punganur bus stand on June 4.

According to the police, the demonstration was organized as part of the party’s “Two Years of Betrayal” campaign against the coalition government. Former MP Reddappa as well as party leaders, activists and supporters attended the protest.

Police claimed that the scheme was carried out without prior permission from the authorities.

A case has been registered at Punganur Police Station and further investigation is on.

Gold ornaments were reported missing from the Bank of Baroda branch; Customers protest

Customers staged a protest at the Bank of Baroda branch in Jangareddygudem in Eluru district on Saturday, alleging that gold jewelery pledged to the bank had gone missing.

Customers said that they mortgaged their gold jewelery to the bank and then applied to the branch to pay off their loans and take back the pledged ornaments. However, it was reported that they were informed by bank officials that the ornaments were not available.

Customers said they had pawned the jewelery as financial security for emergencies and expressed concern about their valuables not being found.

Bank officials stated that the internal investigation regarding the gold jewelry pledged is continuing.

Jangareddygudem police told Deccan Chronicle that the bank is currently inspecting the gold pledged at the branch. They said a formal complaint would be made to the police once the inspection process was completed.

Rape Case: CI’s surrender was refused, he is detained

Former police inspector Chinna Mallaiah, accused in a rape case, surrendered before the police at Vinukonda police station in Palnadu district on Saturday.
The police arrested him immediately after he surrendered and produced him in a court in Chilakaluripeta; The court sentenced him to 14 days of judicial detention. He was later transferred to Guntur jail.
