Kashmir chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who is also the chairman of the Muttahida Majlis (MMU) conglomerate of religious groups, met with Iranian Ambassador Dr. He met with Mohammad Fathali and expressed his condolences “for the martyrdom of the religious leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, his family and other leaders.”

“There is great pain in the hearts of the people of J&K due to the oppression and injustice meted out to Iran, Lebanon and Palestine. People have come out peacefully to protest this in Kashmir. Even now people are collecting money. Kashmir has a historical connection with Iran in terms of culture and faith,” Mirwaiz said.

The Mirwaiz was joined by senior religious leaders such as Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam, Agha Syed Hasan Al-Mosvi, Agha Syed Hadi Al-Mosvi and Agha Syed Mujtaba during his visit to the Iranian embassy. He also recorded “a deep sense of pain and sadness in the condolence book at the embassy” and paid “rich tributes to Khamenei on behalf of the people of J&K”.

A spokesman for the MMU said the Mirwaiz-led delegation “expressed its heartfelt condolences for the martyrdom of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, his family members and other leaders.” “The delegation expressed its deep solidarity with the Iranian people during the period of occupation and distress,” the spokesman said.

The delegation also “expressed serious concerns and condemned the ongoing war against Iran by Israel and the United States,” according to the spokesman. The spokesman said the Mirwaiz hoped “diplomatic efforts to end this aggression and restore peace and stability will prevail.”
