MLB’s Tommy Pham slams California Governor Newsom over SAT score remarks

MLB free agent Tommy Pham addressed California Governor Gavin Newsom’s recent comments regarding SAT scores during an event in Georgia.

On Instagram Stories on Wednesday, Pham reshared a screenshot of the clip of Newsom telling the crowd, “I’m just like you, a guy with a 960 SAT score. I can’t read.”

Pham accused Newsom of thinking Black people are “stupid.”

“I can’t explain that I’m a heterosexual student and I got good scores on my SAT, he thinks I’m black [people] Idiots,” Pham wrote.

Newsom’s original comments sparked widespread criticism on social media, as some assumed his comments contained racist undertones.

“I’m not trying to impress you, I’m just trying to impress you, ‘I’m like you. I’m not better than you,'” Newsom said while chatting with Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens. I’m a guy with a 960 SAT.”

In another story, Pham reshared a screenshot of a clip of Newsom on his podcast speaking to journalists Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes about their 230-page book “Fight”; here Newsom claimed to have finished the entire book in less than two and a half hours.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Newsom’s office for a response.

“You’ve written a great book, and I don’t say this lightly, it’s a short hour and a half, almost two hours, and believe me, I’m not ready for it very quickly, but it reads at an incredible pace,” Newsom told reporters, both white.

A clip of this quote has resurfaced in recent days, as many critics have pointed out the contrast between Newsom’s comments about his reading skills and his discussion with Dickens.

“At first he made fun of MAGA dyslexia, and now they’re calling him a racist for talking about his low SAT scores,” Newsom spokeswoman Izzy Gardon told Fox News Digital in response to criticism of the clip.

“This is a MAGA-manufactured disgrace. The Governor has been saying this publicly for years, including to Charlie Kirk and dozens of other viewers. The same people who excused or ignored Trump’s racist monkey video may be destroying themselves.”

Many defended Newsom on social media, pointing out his dyslexia, and Mayor Dickens offered a response to the controversy. Instagram post “This wasn’t an attack on anyone. It was a moment of vulnerability about his own journey.”

Trying to blame it on dyslexia is a completely different thing than what he means,” Rankin said. “He really believes that black people, black Americans, are intellectually inferior. That’s where his comments came from.”
