Mohamed Salah apologised to Liverpool players after outburst – Curtis Jones

Salah scored Liverpool’s second goal in the 2-0 win against Brighton at Anfield from Hugo Ekitike’s corner, which was the cue for the home fans to cheer him on.

He made a full-time tour of the field in his final game before joining Egypt for the Africa Cup of Nations.

However, his statements after the Leeds match raised a question mark about his future at Liverpool, especially since Saudi Pro League clubs were interested in him and the January transfer window was approaching.

Former Reds defender Jamie Carragher described Salah’s sidelining as a “disgrace”, while former Blackburn and Celtic forward Chris Sutton said the controversial remarks had caused “carnage” at the club.

Speaking before the Tottenham match, Slot said “we moved on” while trying to draw a line under the issue.

Jones added: “I understand there are some ways of working things out, but if a player agrees to stay on the bench and doesn’t want to play and help the team, then I think that’s a bigger problem.

“Whenever any anger comes from us, including myself, it has always been from a good place.

“It may not have been brought up in the right way at the moment, but it never affected the team, the staff, the manager or anyone like that.

“We’re over that now and we’re developing well as a team, we’re playing well and we’re starting to win games.”
