Mohamed Salah: Liverpool forward ‘a disgrace’ as interview causes ‘carnage’, say pundits

Carragher, who Salah predicted in his interview would “come after me again”, was particularly critical of the timing of the comments after Liverpool conceded a late equalizer in their 3-3 draw with Leeds on Saturday evening.
The reigning Premier League champions had won just four of their last 15 games in all competitions through September, with the Slot increasingly under pressure.
“I think he expected to get a bad result with Liverpool,” Carragher said.
“Everyone connected with the club feels like they are at an impasse and this time he has chosen to favor the manager and perhaps try to sack him.
“The one sentence that stands out for me is ‘thrown under the bus’. He’s tried to throw the club under the bus twice in the last 12 months.
“He initially went after the owners and complained about not being given a contract a year ago when he was 32 years old.
“Together with the manager he must do everything he can to help the club avoid its worst results since the 1950s.”
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, former England captain Steph Houghton agrees.
“It probably couldn’t have come at a worse time for Liverpool,” he said.
“That’s what makes us think this was something that was pre-planned. It was probably waiting to come out at some point.” [against Leeds]He didn’t and that probably hurts Mo Salah’s ego.
“But it’s bad behavior on his part. I think it puts other people in danger. This allows us to talk about it, and that’s what he wants.”
Carragher also urged Salah not to be “obsessed” with his own numbers and to help other players such as Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, who have earned big money, hoping to emulate his success at the club.
“Some of the criticism this season has been extreme, but when Mo Salah tries to throw my club under the bus and only thinks about himself, I will go after him,” he added.
“The club made the right decision not to go abroad and I don’t know if he will ever play for the club again.
“I hope so because he is one of the best players we have ever had.”
