Kidnapping suspect wanted near Nancy Guthrie’s Tucson home, sheriff says

The sheriff’s department, which is overseeing the investigation into the suspected kidnapping of Nancy Guthrie, has issued an alert that there is another kidnapping suspect wanted in a separate incident less than 10 miles from her home in Tucson.

Coral Michelle Smith, 40, is a suspect wanted in connection with a kidnapping and aggravated assault in a deadly weapons investigation, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said in a “be careful” message issued over the weekend.

The incident occurred May 29 at the intersection of River Road and La Cholla Boulevard, approximately 6.8 miles from Guthrie’s home in the Catalina Foothills. The sheriff’s department declined to release any further details about the incident.

Authorities have not indicated any connection between Smith and Guthrie’s disappearance.

Court records show Smith has been charged with kidnapping, assault and disorderly conduct in the past. The 2020 kidnapping charge was dismissed, but he was found guilty of residential burglary in the same case. The victim was under 15 years old.

He has served prison time many times before and has many aliases, including “Corral Albright” and “Under the Sea Smith.” local reports.

He has numerous tattoos, including a smiley face and heart on his right ankle, a flaming rose on his right foot, and the words “love, life family” on his left leg.

The wanted person flyer does not include any information about wrist tattoos, but California attorney and Fox News contributor Josh Ritter, who has been following the case, pointed it out.

No suspects have been publicly named in connection with Guthrie’s Feb. 1 disappearance, but authorities described a man who appeared on her front doorstep in Nest camera video as being of average height and build — 5 feet, 9 inches and 5 feet, 10 inches tall.

In video captured by Guthrie’s doorbell camera, the man is seen wearing a black, 25-liter “Ozark Trail Hiker Pack” backpack, authorities said.

Some analysts say the person may have been a woman, but even if that were true, Smith is much shorter than the person on Guthrie’s porch.

Smith is described as being approximately 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighing approximately 136 pounds.

He has blonde hair, blue eyes and a long criminal record that includes previous charges dating back to 2010.

Anyone who sees Smith is asked to call 911 immediately. To provide information anonymously, call Tucson’s 88-Crime hotline at 1-520-882-7463. A reward of $1,000 will be offered for information leading to his arrest.

Guthrie is the 84-year-old mother of “Today” show co-host Savannah Guthrie, who discussed the issue with colleague Jenna Bush Hager on Monday.

“It’s really hard to go back,” he said. He took a break from the program for just over two months during the early stages of the investigation and returned to the air in April.

While deputies had previously detained many people within the scope of the investigation, these people were released without charge.
