Harrowing footage shows the moment a woman was attacked by a ‘Bully-type’ dog and was forcibly dragged to the ground as she desperately tried to save herself from this wild animal.
Police tonight confirmed a 59-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of a dog being dangerously out of control; The animal was seized following the horrific incident in Bolton, Greater Manchester, on Wednesday afternoon.
Video of the attack shows a man walking with the dog, which was on a leash and without a muzzle, in a green area near Rawsthorne Park.
A few seconds later, a woman comes out from around the corner and walks casually towards the animal. The dog then attacks the pedestrian without warning, striking him and knocking him to the ground.
As the woman stands up and tries to run away, the animal lunges again and knocks her to the ground.
During the attack, which lasted about a minute, the owner was still seen taking the lead and trying to pull the animal away from the woman.
Eventually the dog lets go of the woman’s arm and is able to stand up before the woman walks away.
The attack lasts about a minute and the woman manages to get up and walk away.

On Thursday evening Bolton Police issued an update saying a man had been arrested and the dog seized. Studies are continuing to determine the breed of the animal.
The following statements were included in the statement: ‘Yesterday afternoon [January 7] A report was made that an out-of-control dog had bitten a woman in Newton Walk. The woman was slightly injured.
‘This afternoon officers from the Bolton North Neighborhood Team attended an address near Halliwell Road and seized the dog thought to have been involved in the attack.
‘We also arrested a 59-year-old man on suspicion of his dog being dangerously out of control.
‘The dog was taken to the kennels to be cared for while the investigation continues. The man is being held in police custody for questioning.’
Bolton Council was also informed of the incident.
Local councilor Safwaan Patel said: ‘We have been made aware of a dog attack on a lady in Halliwell.
‘We contacted the police to report the incident and shared the footage.
‘We have contacted the family to advise them on next steps.’
Bolton Council cabinet member Councilor Rabiya Jiva said she was monitoring the situation and liaising with police.
One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said dog attacks were an ongoing problem in the area.
He added: ‘I’ve been here for years but it’s getting worse.
‘I feel 100 percent more unsafe in the region than before.’
Local residents expressed concern that the attack occurred near a school and elderly people’s homes.
He said: ‘It’s disgusting how unsafe it is for people coming from local schools and mosques.’
