“It is indeed a water main break on a 12-inch pipe,” confirmed Hugo Bourgoin, media relations officer for the City of Montreal.

The aqueduct located on Avenue Viger gave way around 3:15 p.m., they explained to The Press employees of the City of Montreal. An hour later, an impressive accumulation of water could be observed on site.

“The teams from the Ville-Marie district closed the valves in order to stop the leak,” explained Mr. Bourgoin.

One lane is blocked on Viger Avenue West, between Chenneville and Jeanne-Mance streets. Earlier in the afternoon, traffic on Viger Avenue was blocked from Saint-Laurent Boulevard to Saint-Alexandre Street. Perpendicular streets are closed up to René-Lévesque Boulevard West.

The Palais des Congrès remains open and no citizen in the area is deprived of running water.

“The borough teams will be on site tomorrow to carry out the required work on the pipe,” concluded Mr. Bourgoin.
