More facilities at Kottayam medical college hospital soon set to open

Medical College Superintendent TK Jayakumar said that many important facilities in Kottayam Medical College Hospital, including surgical block, paramedical hostel, cath laboratory, biogas facility, renovated outpatient department and breastfeeding unit, are ready for inauguration.

The inspector informed this at a meeting held by Ports Minister VN Vasavan on Saturday to review the progress of various ongoing construction works at the hospital. The meeting was held at the Medical College Conference Hall and was attended online by Minister for Health, Women and Child Development Veena George, Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Rajan Khobragade and Director of Medical Education KV Vishwanathan.

The construction of the cardiology block and surgical block within the scope of the KIIFB project has been completed. In addition to the existing seven operating theatres, seven more operating rooms were made fully functional.

Addressing the meeting, Health Minister Veena George directed officials to examine the possibility of penalizing the contractor for failing to complete the construction of the super-private block within the stipulated time.

The Executive Engineer of Public Works Department (Buildings) informed the meeting that the construction of the infectious diseases treatment department building is 60% complete and is expected to be completed by February.

The Minister of Health also instructed to accelerate steps to demolish the EFG block, which has been unused for a long time.

Mr. Vasavan directed to hold a special meeting attended by the Minister of Electricity and representatives of KIIFB to discuss the construction of 110 kV substation for uninterrupted power supply to the hospital.
