Morgan McSweeney resigns as Keir Starmer’s chief of staff | Morgan McSweeney

Morgan McSweeney, Keir Starmer’s private secretary and long-time aide, has resigned following a bitter row over alleged plots to oust the Prime Minister.
McSweeney charted Starmer’s path to Downing Street less than five years after Jeremy Corbyn’s devastating defeat in the 2019 election.
His position has come under intense pressure following the seemingly unsuccessful No.
The focus of the briefings was health secretary Wes Streeting, who reacted angrily.
McSweeney’s departure follows the recent loss of two other aides who were particularly close to Starmer, political strategy director Paul Ovenden and communications chief Steph Driver.
But the loss of McSweeney, who spent his career trying to oust the hard left from Labor in Lambeth, south London, is particularly symbolic given his pivotal role in the Starmer project and the transformation of Labor ahead of the 2024 election.
Despite his success in steering Labor to a large majority, McSweeney had his critics within the party and particularly among MPs; Some of them complained that he was heading an unnecessarily factional, petty and clique Downing Street operation.
