A tenuous ceasefire has been reached between Pakistan and Afghanistan after a week of fierce fighting along their shared border, but the fallout has left Islamabad with a nasty propaganda loss. Images of Taliban militants marching with captured Pakistani military equipment and, most importantly, the trousers allegedly left behind by Pakistani soldiers when their positions were abandoned became the subject of general ridicule on social media.
Viral Taunt: ‘93,000’ Link
The most insulting part of the online story revolves around the number ‘93,000’ trending on X (formerly Twitter).

Return to the 1971 War: Afghan activists and social media activists called the scene “93,000 pants ceremony 2.0”. This is a direct reference to the surrender of 93,000 Pakistani soldiers to the Indian Army and Mukti Bahini in the 1971 war, resulting in the creation of Bangladesh.
From 1971 to 2025, nothing seems to have changed because Team 93,000’s history continues to repeat itself.

Symbolic Surrender: The move to display the abandoned trousers – presumably dropped hastily as Pakistani troops retreated – has been seen by commentators as paralleled by Lieutenant General AAK Niazi’s formal surrender of arms and rank insignia in 1971.
Social Media Reaction: Afghan activist Fazal Afgan and army veteran Kanwal Jeet Singh Dhillon, among others, posted the iconic 1971 surrender photo using the popular hashtag to mock Pakistan’s military failures against the Taliban.

Border Clashes and Precision Ceasefire
The humiliating images come amid intense clashes along the disputed border.
Pakistan Attack: The clashes broke out after Pakistan launched a cross-border raid to attack bases of the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which Islamabad accuses of harboring the Afghan Taliban.
Taliban Opposition: The Afghan Taliban were effective defenders and reported killing more than 60 Pakistani soldiers and 20 border posts.
Ceasefire Claims: A ceasefire was reached upon the calls of mediators such as Qatar and Saudi Arabia. However, both sides declared victory over the ceasefire:
Taliban Claim: A Taliban representative said that the ceasefire was agreed upon the “insistence” of the Pakistani side and attributed the successful attacks to Pakistan being placed under a state of emergency.
Pakistan Claim: Sources in the UAE-based army in Pakistan claim that the ceasefire was agreed upon Afghanistan’s request.
