Prince Harry responded to President Trump’s comments about NATO soldiers fighting and dying in Afghanistan with two rare photos. The US President told Fox News that NATO troops were staying away from the front lines and repeated his suggestion that America’s allies would not support him in a military conflict if asked.

The 79-year-old sparked outrage from veterans, military families and politicians by falsely claiming that allied forces were “staying a little bit behind, a little bit away from the front lines” in Afghanistan. The 41-year-old, who served in the British Army for a decade, stood by his fellow soldiers in a newly released statement after seeing Trump’s insults.

His statement was as follows: “In 2001, NATO invoked Article 5 for the first and only time in history. This meant that every allied country had to side with the United States in Afghanistan for our common security. Allies answered this call.

“I served there. I made lifelong friends there. I lost friends there too. 457 service personnel were killed in the UK alone.

“Thousands of lives were changed forever. Mothers and fathers buried their sons and daughters. Children were left fatherless. Families bore the price.

“These sacrifices deserve to be talked about honestly and respectfully, as we all remain united and committed to diplomacy and the defense of peace.”

Also in response, Harry posted two photos of himself on the front lines in Afghanistan taken by John Stillwell.

Both images showed Harry, who ended his service in 2015, working on the front line.

During his service, he rose to the rank of Captain with two operational tours in Afghanistan as a Forward Air Controller and later as an Apache helicopter pilot.
